A small-scale miner in the African country of Tanzania has become a millionaire overnight by selling two Tanzanite rocks.
These rocks are the largest Tanzanite rocks ever found in the country.
Cineno Laser earned 34 3.4 million by selling the 15kg rocks to the country’s Ministry of Mines.
Tanzanite is a stone found only in northern Tanzania and is used to make jewelry.
It is one of the rarest rocks on Earth and a local geologist estimates that the supply of this rock may be completely depleted for the next 20 years.
The highlight of this gemstone is its combination of different colors including green, purple, red and blue.
Its value is estimated by the purity of its colors, the clearer the color, the higher the value of the stone.
Last week, Laser unearthed the stones, which weighed 9.2 kg and 5.8 kg, respectively. However, they sold the stones during a ceremony in the northern region of Manyara on Wednesday.
Tanzanian President John Magufuli called Laser and congratulated him on the occasion.
“This is an advantage for small-scale miners, and it proves that Tanzania is prosperous,” he said.
Magufuli came to power in 2015 and promised to protect the country’s interests in the mining sector and thereby increase government revenue.
What did the millionaire laser say ?
Laser is 52 years old and has been married four times. He said he would sacrifice a cow.
They also want to invest in the Simanjiro district of Manyara in the coming days.
“I want to build a shopping mall and a school. I want to build this school close to my home. There are a lot of poor people here who can’t send their children to school.
“I am not educated but I want things to be run professionally,” he added. So I would like my children to run the business professionally.
He said that this extraordinary incident would not make any difference in his life. He said he would continue to take care of his 2,000 cows.
He said that despite being suddenly rich, he would not want to take any precautionary measures.
“Security here is already satisfactory. So there will be no problem. I can walk at night without any problem.
Small-scale miners such as Laser obtain licenses from the government to explore for tanzanite, but there is also illegal mining near mines operated by large companies.
In 2017, President Magufuli ordered the military to build a 24-kilometer-long wall around the Marilani mine in Manyara, which is considered the only Tanzanite quarry in the world.
