Kosovo has announced its recognition of Israel and will open an embassy in Jerusalem. Serbia has announced to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

Under the mediation of US President Donald Trump, rival countries Serbia and Kosovo have agreed to normalize trade relations, while the leaders of the two countries in the United States have changed their foreign policy towards Israel. Serbia has already recognized Israel, but has announced that it will move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, while Kosovo will recognize Israel and open an embassy in Jerusalem.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has praised Kosovo, saying it would be the first Muslim-majority country to open an embassy in Jerusalem.┬áHe added, “The scope of peace is expanding and many other countries will follow suit.

The Trump administration unilaterally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in 2017 and moved its embassy there in May 2118. The United States is also encouraging other countries to open embassies in Jerusalem, but this is being strongly opposed by the Palestinians and Europe.

Thus far, four countries have recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. These include the United States and Guatemala. The Palestinians consider East Jerusalem to be the permanent capital of their proposed state. It was occupied by Israel during the 1967 war. US President Trump has been a staunch supporter of Israel since coming to power. The United Arab Emirates recently announced its intention to establish relations with Israel under US mediation. The UAE was the first Gulf state to recognize Israel.
